Liverpool transfer news: Reds keen to sign Andreas Schjelderup, he’s got a contract waiting for him elsewhere
Liverpool have always had one eye on the future in every transfer window they take part in.
So far, the only new player to join Liverpool this month has been winger Cody Gakpo.
Although none of these players are likely to turn around Liverpool’s season, they’re sure to play big parts in the future.
A young player who’s already making a big impact now is striker Andreas Schjelderup.
TV2 report that Liverpool are keen on Schjelderup, who is currently the top scorer in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland.
This would be an impressive enough feat at any age, but the young Norwegian is just 18.
Liverpool keen on Schjedlerup
The report states that Liverpool and Brentford, ‘have presented specific projects to Schjelderup’s representatives’.
Given how successful Brentford’s scouting network in Scandinavia is, this is a good sign for Liverpool.
However, the report also states that Portuguese side Benfica have already offered him a five-and-a-half-year deal.
Personal terms ‘have not been fully negotiated’, but Roger Schmidt’s side are clearly big fans of the young Norwegian.
Schjelderup has 10 goals in just 17 league appearances this season, which is a better rate than Mohamed Salah or Darwin Nunez.
Schjelderup has previously been on trial at Spurs and Liverpool, and it’s interesting that the Merseyside club are keen on him once again.
Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal have also been credited with interest.
This is only natural for a player scoring so many senior goals at such a young age.
There’s a temptation to compare Schjelderup to Erling Haaland, given his nationality and age.
However, he’s more of an inverted winger, who prefers driving at defenders with the ball at his feet.
He’s another player who likes playing off the left, which Liverpool now have in abundance.
It wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world for Liverpool to potentially move for him now and loan him out to continue scoring in Denmark.
