Liverpool tipped to sign ‘magnificent’ Premier League player who shone on the international stage this weekend

It’s safe to say that Crystal Palace midfielder, Conor Gallagher, impressed as he made his debut for England this weekend at Wembley.

The Chelsea loanee slotted in perfectly in the middle of the park and looked right at home against Switzerland, who eventually succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to the Three Lions. Gallagher played an hour before Declan Rice took his place and showed just how good he can be too. Both players are highly-rated, and both are bound to be the subject of interest this summer.

And according to former Republic of Ireland striker, Tony Cascarino, Liverpool should be doing all they can to try and get Gallagher from Chelsea this summer.

“Conor Gallagher is an outstanding attacking midfielder who always looks like he’s going to get a goal or make an assist,” he said on Talksport.

“Liverpool, for me, if they had a player like that as well adding him behind their front three, with his ability to get goals. Chelsea would never sell him to Liverpool, but they’d do really well with him.”

Cascarino used the word outstanding for Gallagher and that’s not the first time someone has praised him. Ian Wright labelled the Palace loanee ‘magnificent’ after he last played for England, too.

Cascarino is right in suggesting Chelsea wouldn’t want to sell to the Reds but the idea of him playing for them in the midfield is an interesting one.

Liverpool will need to start adding a midfielder or two in the coming seasons. They never replaced Gini Wijnaldum and the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho aren’t getting any younger. Gallagher, as Cascarino mentions, can do a bit of everything.

In terms of the modern day midfielder, he is a bit of a throwback to yesteryear. He can get a goal, but he also loves a tackle and his workrate is there for all to see. At Liverpool, Gallagher would thrive you feel.
