Liverpool target heading to England for medical after £52m Manchester United bid

A rumoured Liverpool transfer target is now reportedly heading to England to undergo a medical after Manchester United made a £52m bid.

The Red Devils have been hard at work this summer to rebuild their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season, with United already beating the likes of Arsenal to Joshua Zirkzee, with Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt also on the agenda for Erik Ten Hag.

As for Liverpool, their new era under Arne Slot has so far resulted in zero new signings, though the Reds have been linked with the likes of Mohamed Simakan and Leny Yoro, with defence clearly on the mind of the Anfield boss.

Yet Liverpool now seem set to miss out on one of their aforementioned targets.

Yoro travelling to England to undergo Manchester United medical

According to the Athletic, LOSC Lille defender Yoro is en-route to England to undergo a medical with United, with the Red Devils seemingly winning the race for the teenager after having a £52m bid accepted earlier this month.

As per the report, Yoro’s original preference had been to join Real Madrid, yet with the Spanish giants seemingly unwilling to match United’s bid for the 18-year-old, the Red Devils could be in the clear to land the defender.

Indeed, Liverpool were also chasing Yoro and looked like ideal suitors for the defender, given that the Anfield side are keen to spend big on a young centre-back who could one day replace Virgil van Dijk in the starting XI.

However, it’s United who have now won the race to sign Yoro, with the defender taking a big risk with his career in opting for a move to Old Trafford rather than waiting out for Liverpool or Madrid to enter the race later this summer.

Yoro could quickly reject Red Devils move next season

United have become something of a basket case in recent years for promising players looking to take the next steps in their career, with Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho and Antony all failing to make the grade at Old Trafford.

And Yoro could easily become the next big wonderkid to fall into this category, with the defender taking a big gamble in heading to United whilst wanted by the likes of Madrid and Liverpool, who would be more ideal destinations for the centre-back.

Indeed, United have made big moves on and off the pitch in recent months to suggest that a new era is finally here, and Yoro’s development could be an indicator if things have truly changed or if it will be more of the same under Ten Hag.
