Report: 'Spectacular' Liverpool target has £63m release-clause

Liverpool are keen on Villarreal winger, Arnaut Danjuma, and a report from The Athletic has revealed that the Dutchman does indeed have a release-clause in his current contract.

Danjuma, 24, has made serious waves since moving to La Liga from Bournemouth. He’s scored nine goals in all competitions this season and has already made a name for himself with the Dutch national team. Indeed, the speedy winger earned the praise of Louis van Gaal back in October for a blistering cameo.

“This was a spectacular substitute by Danjuma. He deserves to be praised because what he showed was very clever. On the left we have plenty of options, on the right we don’t. He deserves to be praised. Danjuma had nice, good dribbles. His fellow players were not quite ready for his hard crosses yet,” Van Gaal said at the time.

We reported just last week how Danjuma, along with Leeds star Raphinha, is being watched by Liverpool. And now The Athletic has claimed that Danjuma has a hefty release-clause in his contract of around £63m (75m Euros). Further, it’s also suggested that that release-clause can be activated at any time.

Liverpool, though, are not expected to spend big in January. The summer, however, could be a different story, especially if Mo Salah still hasn’t sorted his future.

There’s no doubting that Arnaut Danjuma is a good player with big potential. He’s still just 24 and if he continues how he is, then he could be a huge star.

However, Liverpool simply won’t be splashing that sort of money on a winger who’s essentially – for now anyway – going to be a back-up option. It’s just not happening.

But, it’s interesting for the Reds to know of the clause. Often, we see clubs bid close to those clauses and the selling club tempted into doing a deal. And really, in terms of release-clauses, it’s nowhere near one of the biggest in Spain.
