'They like': Fabrizio Romano names two players Liverpool are keen on in January

Liverpool aren’t normally the big spenders in January but Fabrizio Romano hasn’t ruled out the Reds making a move this year, if the right player becomes available.

Transfer guru and journalist Romano has been speaking to The Anfield Watch website and YouTube channel to discuss Liverpool’s plans for the window. The Reds will be without Mo Salah and Sadio Mane for some of January, and there are calls from some fans for FSG to back Klopp with temporary replacements.

However, according to Romano, Liverpool will only act if the right player comes along. And that means someone for the longer term, not only to cover Salah and Mane’s absence.

“Liverpool will only go into it if they have an opportunity that is also for the future. So they don’t want to sign a player just for six months or 3/4 games with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane leaving the club for the African Cup,” Romano said.

DIVOCK ORIGI DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.

“They will jump into it if they find an opportunity like Diogo Jota – a player with a good price with no crazy price tag, and with good skills that match Jurgen Klopp’s ideas. So if they will are able to find this kind of opportunity, they will do it. Liverpool are looking in the transfer market for that kind of player, a winger – this is the priority.”

Continuing his comments, Romano then confirmed that two recently linked players are indeed on Liverpool’s watchlist.

“They like players like Raphinha from Leeds or Danjuma from Villarreal. But it’s very complicated to sign them in January,” he stated.

And not just because Salah and Mane are going in January, but because the Liverpool squad seems a bit threadbare in those areas at times.

Of course, without Salah and Mane, there are real issues. Xherdan Shaqiri left in the summer, while Diogo Jota has developed into a more central role under Klopp. Harvey Elliott is out injured, while experienced heads like James Milner have dropped deeper too.

Players like Raphinha and Danjuma are ideal really. However, as Romano states, these are big deals to do and Liverpool would have to fork out big sums.
