Liverpool made a lot of changes to their squad this summer, with an ex-Chelsea winger suggesting one former player can now make a difference for his new side.
The Reds’ new-look attack is taking some time to gel, with mega-money signing Alexander Isak yet to get up to speed at Anfield.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot wants Cody Gakpo to change up his style and link play through Milos Kerkez more.
Perhaps most concerning, Mohamed Salah has struggled for goals during the opening few months of 2025/26.
However, one player who left Anfield in the summer is thriving and has earned praise from ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich talent Arjen Robben this week.

Arjen Robben thinks Luis Diaz will be key for Bayern Munich
Speaking to Bayern’s media team, the Dutchman suggested that former Crystal Palace star Michael Olise and Luis Diaz can be difference makers for the German powerhouse.
He said: “Things are going great at Bayern. I particularly like the teamwork. The team just works and is in harmony – and everyone gets back to defend very well.
“If they continue to play so solidly, guys like Michael Olise or Luis Díaz can make the difference. Both are in good form at the moment, they’re very quick and strong in one-on-one situations.”
Diaz has been compared to Ronaldinho during his time in Bavaria and is outscoring all of Liverpool’s attackers this season.
| Player | Goals | Assists |
| Luis Diaz | 7 | 4 |
| Mohamed Salah | 3 | 3 |
| Hugo Ekitike | 6 | 1 |
| Federico Chiesa | 2 | 3 |
| Cody Gakpo | 4 | 3 |
But with the Reds not at their best and none of their forwards in great form, why did they decide to let Diaz leave?

Why Liverpool sold Luis Diaz
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Slot commented on the reason for the Colombian’s exit.
The Dutchman was quick to show his love for Diaz. He said: “Even when I didn’t play him he always came out for every training session and gave it everything, with a smile on his face.”
However, he went on to admit the Reds needed to recoup some transfer funds after signing players like Ekitike this summer.
He said: “We are making big signings, we have done that over the past few years. But this club also needs to recoup funds to get these transfers that we already did over the line.
“It has been a summer where we’ve spent a lot but I think if people look at all the money we’ve already brought in, that’s also – like last year when we almost only sold players – a good thing for this club as well.”
