Liverpool reportedly want Federico Chiesa and Italian legend Bruno Conti has previously lauded him

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Italy and Juventus star Federico Chiesa, and he’s a genuine talent, according to 1982 World Cup winner Bruno Conti.

Chiesa is being linked with a move to the Reds. Reports yesterday suggested Liverpool had made tentative enquiries about the Juventus star, who has shone for Italy in the Euros.

It’s claimed a club-record fee would need to paid. Juventus are said to be want around £77m for the young forward. That, of course, would eclipse the huge fee paid for Virgil van Dijk.

However, there’s reason to be excited for Liverpool fans when it comes to Chiesa, and that’s not just because of his Euro 2020 exploits.

Bruno Conti, who won the World Cup with Italy in 1982, picked Chiesa out back in 2018 as a top player.

What Conti said on Chiesa

Conti, an Italian legend in his own right and someone who played with some of the very best, knows a player when he sees on. And speaking back in 2018, he picked Chiesa out as one to watch.

He has all the quality to do well, because he is a genuine talent,” Conti said.

“Much like me, he can play on either flank depending on whether the Coach asks him to get to the by-line and cross or pull back inside and try for a shot.

“That’s not even taking into account that Chiesa has a great eye for goal and is physically strong, which enables him to switch gears quickly from defence to attack. I see in Chiesa the same desire to learn and spirit of sacrifice that I had.”

Hard ask

Being interested in Chiesa is one thing for Liverpool. Signing him is a completely different matter.

Given Juventus already rate him so highly and value him, the Euros has simply added to that. Why they’d even think about selling him now, is a bizarre one.

However, Liverpool do want new players. And in fairness, Chiesa is a top, top player. If they pull this one off, it would be a huge statement of intent from the Reds.
