Report: Liverpool still in the mix to land 'very special' free-agent this summer who Spurs tried for on deadline day

Liverpool remain firmly in the mix when it comes to landing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie this summer, albeit Barcelona remain the Ivorian’s preferred destination of choice.

Kessie is set to leave Milan for nothing in the summer window. After impressing in recent seasons, Kessie has failed to agree to fresh terms with the Serie A giants. Now, he seems almost certain to move on, with Liverpool among the teams waiting in the wings.

Marca have claimed that while Barcelona are still favourites to sign Kessie, both Liverpool and PSG are ready to make their own move if the chance comes along. The Ivorian will likely command a big wage, given he is moving on a free.

Kessie has been courted by English clubs for some time now. Indeed, it was only on deadline day that we reported on TBR how Tottenham had tried to land Kessie in a swap deal. Fabio Paratici is a big fan of the midfielder, while reports prior to January suggested Spurs could pay him around £200k-a-week if he joined.

TBR’s View: Kessie Improves Liverpool Even Further

We’ve already seen the impact Luis Diaz looks to be having on this Liverpool team. If the Reds can also sign Franck Kessie, then that is quite the coup for Jurgen Klopp.

The AC Milan star has been quite superb in recent years in Italy. Brave on the ball, not afraid of a tackle, and also capable of chipping in with a goal – he has five this season – Kessie has a bit of everything.

On a free-transfer, you have to say this would be smart business for Liverpool if they pull it off.
