Liverpool announced earlier this week that Liam Millar had completed a seven-figure move to Swiss outfit FC Basel. It is a big move for the Canada international, who had been out on loan with League One side Charlton beforehand. Now, Millar has posted on Instagram after his Liverpool exit.
Millar, 21, joined Liverpool five years ago from Fulham’s youth side but failed to have the desired impact on Merseyside. He has managed just one senior appearance for Liverpool, instead going on loan to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock twice. Last season, he joined Charlton.
The Canadian had a hand in nine goals during 27 games for the Addicks last season. He returned to Liverpool, but has been instantly sold permanently. Goal say that Basel have paid Liverpool to sign the attacker for £1.3million this summer. Millar posted on Instagram, after moving to Switzerland.
A good move for Millar – to leave Liverpool and join Basel?
There is a player in there. But Millar was never going to make it at Liverpool. The attacking talent available to Jurgen Klopp is astounding and they might even add to that this summer. Millar was right to leave permanently and a move to Basel is a really big coup for him.
Basel are one of those European clubs, in a lesser European league, that still have the stature and ability to produce top talents. Millar can easily go to Basel, spend three really good seasons there and return to a bigger European league. It is a really, really good move for the Canadian ace.
