Liverpool now in ‘ongoing’ talks for £40m signing alongside Alexander Isak

TBR Football understands that Liverpool are continuing talks with Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi as they look to try and secure a deal for the England international.

Liverpool have been in contact with Palace all summer about Guehi, but thus far they have been unable to agree terms with Steve Parish.

Parish admitted that he is looking to sell Guehi this month rather than lose him for nothing next summer, but he is still seeking a fee of close to £40 million.

Sources have informed TBR Football that Liverpool are pushing ahead with Guehi talks. Guehi captained Crystal Palace in their goalless draw with Fredrikstad in the Conference League on Thursday evening – which could very well have been his final appearance for the Eagles.

Liverpool have already signed Giovanni Leoni, but Guehi has always been seen as a priority for the club’s hierarchy.

Exclusive: Liverpool want to sign Marc Guehi now

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed the Reds are working on signing Guehi before the deadline, and the player is leaning towards a move to Anfield now rather than exploring his options as a free agent in 2026.

Bailey states: “Liverpool are heading towards the end of the window, anticipating a busy end, and we are told that Guehi is being worked on.

“Talks are ongoing, and I believe they would not be talking now if they did not feel a deal could be put in place. Guehi was open to waiting until next summer to move on a free, but would he turn down Liverpool now to explore that – I don’t believe so.”

Guehi has decided on Liverpool as his preferred destination despite prior concerns regarding game time with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, the established first-team partnership in central defence.

As TBR Football revealed, Guehi was expected to stay at Crystal Palace for the remainder of the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park following the departure of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

Furthermore, Liverpool only want to strike a deal on favourable terms, as the sides have hit a stumbling block in negotiations over the fee; the Reds do not want to be forced into overpaying for a player they can acquire for free at the end of the season.

However, the situation has changed both in South London and Merseyside, and it appears the clubs are working hard to reach an agreement in the final days of the transfer window.

Liverpool are also expected to push for Alexander Isak

As mentioned by Bailey, the Reds are preparing for a busy end to the summer transfer window, with two further additions being a priority for Arne Slot.

Following Newcastle United’s move for Nick Woltemade, Liverpool are expected to send a second bid for Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old has dominated headlines throughout the summer, and now the Reds are moving to end the prolonged saga.

Isak and Guehi would be the crown jewels in what has already proven to be an impressive window at Anfield, leaving the Premier League champions in a fantastic position to compete on all fronts this season.
