Liverpool fans want 24-year-old signed as Klopp reportedly set to battle Tuchel in £70m race
Liverpool are reportedly battling Chelsea and Everton in the race to sign Newcastle attacker Allan Saint-Maximin – and Reds fans have reacted.
Saint-Maximin, 24, has been on fire for Newcastle this season. Many Toon fans are of the belief the Frenchman is easily their best player.
The ex-Nice star, signed by Newcastle for just £16.5million, has five goal involvements in six Premier League games this season.
Scoring two, he has laid on three assists – and it should have been four or even five on Saturday. Newcastle, somehow, failed to beat Watford.
Saint-Maximin teed up Sean Longstaff for Newcastle’s only goal – but laying off Longstaff to tap home, the midfielder blazed the ball over the bar.
Then, in injury time, his pass found Jacob Murphy through on goal – but the ex-Norwich man tried to chip Ben Foster. It was easily saved.
His ability as a striker or from out wide, his pace and skill, and his goals and creativity makes him an easy comparison with current star Sadio Mane.
CalcioMercato report that Chelsea are keen, as are Liverpool and Rafa Benitez’s Everton. The Mail say Newcastle value him at £70million.
What do Liverpool fans think of Newcastle star Saint-Maximin?
Liverpool could do with additions out wide. Both Mane and Mo Salah are set to jet off in January to represent Senegal and Egypt at the African Cup.
They will be missing for a month, while Harvey Elliott is likely to be out well into the new year. Xherdan Shaqiri was sold to Lyon in the summer.
Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to reports that they are one of three Premier League clubs eyeing Saint-Maximin – and they want him signed.
