Liverpool fans think missing out on De Paul might help them sign 26-year-old
Atletico Madrid announced the signing of Rodrigo De Paul on Monday, after months of speculation surrounding his signature. He was heavily linked with Leeds 12 months ago, and Liverpool more recently. Now, Liverpool fans think missing out on De Paul might help them sign another player.
De Paul, 27, enjoyed a near-perfect season. Starring for Udinese with the captain’s armband, the midfielder had a hand in 20 goals from midfield. He was also a crucial part of Argentina’s Copa America-winning side that beat Brazil 1-0 in the final. It was De Paul’s beautiful pass that set up the winner.
Days after winning Copa America, a move to Atletico Madrid has been announced. Goal report that a move has set Atletico back in the region of £30million and that De Paul has put pen to paper on a five-year deal. Liverpool were reportedly keen on De Paul earlier in the summer.
What are Liverpool fans saying about Atletico signing De Paul?
According to Il Milanista, both Liverpool and Leeds wanted to sign De Paul this summer. Liverpool have been in need of a midfielder since Gini Wijnaldum opted to leave Anfield, joining PSG on a free transfer. However, Liverpool are now keen on another midfielder and De Paul could help.
AS suggest that Atletico are expecting an offer from Liverpool, with Saul Niguez’s price tag set at £40million. He has a release clause of £150million. Liverpool have missed out on De Paul, but many reckon De Paul’s arrival could help them get Saul this summer.
