Liverpool will need to pay more than £40m if they have any hopes of landing Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid this summer.
Reports last week suggested that Niguez could be moved out of Madrid this summer by Diego Simeone. The Spanish midfielder has dropped down the pecking order a tad, despite his obvious talent.
However, despite recent claims that Liverpool are preparing a bid of around £40m for Niguez, it appears the Reds will need to find more.

AS suggest that Atletico are expecting bids in excess of that £40m figure for Niguez, and they hope to get the best deal possible. While they concede they won’t his £150m release-clause, it’s believed the club still want big money if they are to sell.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are in the hunt for a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. They’ve already signed Ibrahima Konate in defence, with a midfielder the next priority.
Class act
In terms of midfield players, they don’t come much better – talent wise – than Saul Niguez.
This is a player who Spain had huge hopes for. His last 12 months hasn’t quite lived up to expectation, although he did make 22 starts as Atletico won La Liga last season.
He has 19 caps and three goals for Spain. One of which came at Wembley, on a night when Niguez showed everyone what he is capable of.
If Liverpool are serious about adding to their ranks, then signing Saul Niguez would certainly be a shrewd move by Jurgen Klopp.
