Liverpool fans should be excited by Federico Chiesa links after immense Euros efforts - TBR View

Liverpool fans will be expecting the club to motor into gear in the coming weeks and sign a few new faces ahead of the new season.

The Reds have so far brought in Ibrahima Konate to improve the depth in defence. But Gini Wijnaldum has left a void in midfield, while up top, there has yet to be much movement both in and out.

The Euro 2020 tournament was always going to be a chance for Liverpool and other clubs to cast an eye on the talent playing. And one player who the Reds are said to be keen on, is Italian starlet, Federico Chiesa.

The Juventus man was inspiration as Italy won the tournament. Despite not starting the opening games, Chiesa quickly developed into a key figure for Roberto Mancini.

Liverpool fans, then, should be pretty excited about Chiesa if the reports are correct.

Work-rate and goals

To play for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, you have to work hard. There is no room for slacking. If you’re part of the attacking three, you’re expected to defend from the front.

Chiesa does exactly that. As well as scoring two goals and having 17 attempts in just seven games at the Euros, the forward’s off the ball work was outstanding.

Italy press as a team anyway. But Chiesa covered an impressive 47.8km in the tournament. For a young player, playing in one of the forward positions, that is outstanding work. Mason Mount, one of players in the engine room for England, covered 50km, albeit in 2 games less.

He also reached a top speed of over 33km/ph. For comparison, England’s Raheem Sterling – often seen as the quickest in the squad – reached the same speed.

So, while Juventus might want to keep hold of Chiesa, and he’d no doubt cost a fortune, if Liverpool do follow up their interest, then there is reason to be excited at Anfield.

In terms of ticking boxes to suit a Klopp player, Chiesa fits the bill perfectly.
