Liverpool fans impressed with Diogo Jota's display for Portugal at Euro 2020
Portugal scraped into the last 16 of Euro 2020 as they came from behind to secure a point against France. Two Cristiano Ronaldo penalties cancelled out a brace from Karim Benzema. But Liverpool fans were mightily impressed with the performance of their attacker, Diogo Jota.
In an incredibly topsy-turvy match, Portugal were awarded a strange penalty when Hugo Lloris attempted to punch away – but cannoned into Danilo Pereira. Of course, Ronaldo sent Lloris the wrong way. But France came roaring back, scoring a penalty of their own through Benzema.
The Real Madrid ace ended a drought stretching back almost six years to October 2015 – given his exile from the France squad. He made it 2-1 in the second half, only for France to concede another penalty for Ronaldo to score. It took the Juventus veteran’s tally to five goals for the tournament.
What are Liverpool fans saying about Jota’s performance?
As he normally is, Jota was everywhere – a real livewire. The relationship between him and Ronaldo continues to bubble at the surface. When Jota tries to score himself, Ronaldo is seen frustrated – as he is with any teammate when not given the ball. But Jota does not seem to care.
He failed to open his Euro 2020 account but Liverpool fans were impressed with the performance of ex-Wolves star Jota. One fan claimed the £90,000-a-week star (Spotrac) was one of Portugal’s “best players”.
