Liverpool fans banded together to share their disgust after what happened before the Community Shield clash.
The Reds lost the Community Shield on penalties, wherein Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, and Harvey Elliott all failed to convert from the spot.
All the attention after kick-off was on the Reds’ summer arrivals – Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring after four minutes after he latched onto Florian Wirtz’s pass – the Liverpool pair were electric at Wembley.
Jeremie Frimpong then got involved in the action as he managed to cross the ball into the back of the net in the 20th-minute to cancel out Jean-Philippe Mateta’s equaliser from the penalty spot.

A second Palace equaliser, courtesy of Ismaila Sarr, would send the match to penalties, with 21-year-old Justin Devenny the hero on the day.
However, unsavoury scenes captured live on TNT Sport prior to the kick-off left a sour taste on the Community Shield clash and left Liverpool fans in outrage.
Liverpool fans fuming after Diogo Jota’s minute of silence interrupted
As expected, both sets of players met in the centre circle as Wembley was invited to observe a minute’s silence to remember the late Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.
During the silence, a small minority of Crystal Palace supporters broke the silence, choosing to shout and tarnish the reputation of what is a highly respected fan base
Nevertheless, Liverpool supporters and journalists took to social media to voice their disgust at the actions of a small few. One fan wrote: “Some people booing during the minute silence for Diogo Jota? Absolute and utter disgrace.”
Another fan wrote: “Crystal Palace fans booing that moment of silence in remembrance of Jota and Andre is disgustingly shocking.”
It is important to stress that the majority of the Eagles fans in Wembley did indeed pay their respects for Jota and the amazing relationship between the two sets of fans, seen in the match on the final day of the 2024/25 season, should not be tarnished by the actions of those who do not represent the Crystal Palace fans as a whole.
Liverpool ECHO journalist, Ian Doyle, also voiced his opinion via X: “A small number of Palace fans interrupt the period of silence for Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, and the referee calls an early end to it. Disappointing.”
DaveOCKOP, another fellow Liverpool journalist, joined in to berate those responsible: “That’s disgraceful. A minute silence for Diogo Jota and Andre Silva (was) cut short due to booing from a small number of Crystal Palace fans.”
The Reds may have started the new season on the right footing, but there is no denying that the incident during the minute’s silence has ruined the curtain-raiser to the English football calendar.
Crystal Palace fans responsible should be “banned” from football
Liverpool supporters have proven, on numerous occasions over the years, that they will not remain silent when they believe they have been wronged.
One supporter solidified the opinion that the supporters are disgusted at the actions of those who interrupted the silence for Jota, writing: “People yelling through the moment of silence for Diogo Jota and his brother? Disgusting man. Show some respect.”
A simple call for those involved to respect the memory of Jota is not enough for some supporters, with one Reds fan believing swift action must be taken.
He wrote: “The Crystal Palace fans who were booing and jeering the minute’s silence for Diogo Jota should be banned from football stadiums. Absolutely disgusting.”
For those who participated in the shouting, they will do well to remember the impact the scenes will have had on the family of Jota and his brother Andre, the next time they think about acting in such a vile manner.
