Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz made quite an impression during their first competitive Liverpool match in the Community Shield.

Arne Slot’s team have gone big during the summer transfer window, spending an outlay of around £300 million on new additions.

Liverpool signing Wirtz for £116m was the headline arrival, but Ekitike for £78m also looks to be an elite bit of business from the Reds.

Liverpool supporters have already been making a strong point about the pair following their performances at Wembley Stadium.

Liverpool fans stunned by Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz’s connection

Liverpool fans have been mesmerised by the connection already developing between the attacking duo of Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.

Ekitike and Wirtz combined after just four minutes to hand the Reds an early lead in the Community Shield final as the Frenchman finished off the move.

The former Bundesliga duo played a one-two on the edge of the Crystal Palace penalty area before Ekitike picked out the bottom right-hand corner.

TBR Football tipped Wirtz to be a winner from Ekitike’s arrival, and the German certainly thrived off of the 23-year-old’s presence up top.

Liverpool just sold Darwin Nunez for over £50m, and already they look to have found a significant upgrade on the Uruguayan striker.

Ekitike’s willingness to drop deep and link up with his teammates made him a real handful for Palace during the Community Shield.

During the match, Liverpool fans took to X to share their thoughts on the telepathic connection developing between the pair.

One fan claimed: “We are so fluid. Ekitike is everything I expected and more. Him, Wirtz and Salah are gonna have a special connection this season. This linkplay is levels beyond what we had with Nunez up top.”

“Wirtz and Ekitike have that connection; they know what the other is thinking. Gerrard and Torres energy,” claimed another fan with very high praise.

There was further praise for the two new Liverpool signings: “Ekitike and Wirtz link up is instinctive, the quick touches and flicks to speed up play are so exciting.”

Finally, another supporter added: “Slot has raised the technical level of this team so much with the signings of Ekitike and Wirtz.”

Ekitike managed 71 minutes at Wembley before he was replaced by Alexis Mac Allister, and Wirtz was subbed off for Harvey Elliott on minute 84.

The rest of the Premier League have already been warned that the duo of Wirtz and Ekitike could be a real problem for the new season.

Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz seriously impressed for Liverpool

Wirtz was at the heart of the action for Slot’s team as he managed 73 touches, which was the third highest before his withdrawal.

The German also completed 49 of his 56 passes, which included an assist and one big chance created on a great afternoon for the German.

The 23-year-old showed that he could play alongside Dominik Szoboszlai in the midfield, despite Ryan Gravenberch missing the game.

It’s the early stages, but already, Liverpool look to have some serious additions to their team, with Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong also impressing.
