Liverpool’s search for a new manager is bound to dominate the headlines around the club over the next few months.

Klopp’s shock announcement yesterday that he is to step down as Liverpool manager came as a huge surprise to everyone involved in football.

The German announced to fans he cannot continue with the same energy levels and he will now take some time out of the game before deciding his future.

Of course, quite who will replace Klopp is open to debate. Early names being mentioned include Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard.

However, there is another German coach, Julian Nagelsmann, who has also been tipped to be on Liverpool’s radar.

And looking at what Klopp has said about Nagelsmann in the past, the Germany boss seems to already have the seal of approval from his fellow countryman.

Jurgen Klopp has already sung the praises of Julian Nagelsmann

Nagelsmann broke through on the scene in Germany just as Klopp was getting his feet firmly under the table at Anfield.

Still only 36 now, Nagelsmann is in charge of the German national team already and is very much seen as one of the brightest young managers about.

And those thoughts were echoed by Klopp back in 2015, when the Liverpool boss gave Nagelsmann his seal of approval before Liverpool played Hoffenheim.

“I’m really happy for my friend and agent Marc Kosicke because I’m getting older and older – I’m the old horse in the stable and there’s a young horse already for the long term. [He is a] big, big, big coaching talent. We don’t know each other very well because we didn’t really have time – when I left Germany I think he was an U19 coach or something like this,” Klopp said.

“But since, we have wrote messages and things like this. I’ve really followed his way since then because I like good football and obviously his team is playing interesting and good football. He’s not the only one but he’s a good example for a lot of really good young managers in Germany. It’s an interesting time on the manager market in Germany at this moment.”

Quite whether Liverpool can somehow tempt Nagelsmann away from the Germany job remains to be seen.

Nagelsmann was linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer but ultimately ended up not getting the job before Ange Postecoglou was handed the reins.

Liverpool, then, could well intrigue him enough to be in the mix come the summer.
