Report: Liverpool made 'special allowances' back in May to help sway 'exceptional' player's mindset
Liverpool eventually handed Mo Salah a new contract in the summer as one of the longest sagas of the last 12 months was brought to an end.
Salah penned fresh terms at Anfield to become their highest paid player and in turn commit his future to the Reds as the likes of Sadio Mane went the other way. Of course, Salah’s poor start to the season and Mane’s departure have caused plenty of debate in the opening weeks of the campaign.
However, while some might have thought Salah was leaving at one point, it seems Liverpool had it in hand and did all they could to show Salah how much he meant to the club. Per a report from The Athletic, this goes back to May this year as well, when the Reds reportedly brought back former physio Chris Rohrbeck.
It’s claimed that Rohrbeck was contacted after Salah and other players were injured ahead of the Champions League final. Within 48 hours, the German was back at Anfield and it’s believed this was a ploy by Liverpool to convince Salah of their willingness to go the extra mile and make ‘special allowances’ for him.
Certainly, it seems to have worked.
TBR’s View: Salah Still Liverpool’s Main Man
He might be suffering a dip in form and a lack of goals but against Ajax this week, there was a glimmer of the old Mo Salah coming back to the fore. He looked sharp, alert, and the work ethic many love about him was back.
For Salah, this is a big season made even bigger by the obvious impact of Mane leaving. He has to show he still is the main man, which everyone will surely still say he is.
Liverpool will get going again and once the ‘exceptional‘ Salah gets into a run of form, well, we’ve all seen just how good he can be.
