'He's exceptional': Pep Guardiola raves about £34m Liverpool player

Liverpool and Manchester City lock horns in the Community Shield this afternoon.

The Reds and the Citizens will lift the curtain on another season in which they will vie for the top honours.

Last season, Liverpool and City once again battled for the Premier League title right until the final game.

For the second time in four seasons, the Reds finished second to City despite getting over 90 points.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges also beat Pep Guardiola’s outfit en route to winning the FA Cup.

Both Liverpool and City have made some big changes over the summer.

The Reds lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich, but brought in Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay.

Liverpool also sold four other players, while three more left on free transfers.

Meanwhile, City sold Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

In terms of new recruits, Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Julian Alvarez and Stefan Ortega have arrived.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah was being linked with a Liverpool exit, but he eventually penned a new contract.

The £34million man was unplayable in the first half of last season, but he lost form somewhat in the second half.

This season, Salah will hope to once again reach and maintain top form in pursuit of more silverware for Liverpool.

And Guardiola, speaking at his pre-match press conference, is well aware of the danger Salah will present for his side.

“I’m not saying anything new because we know it,” the City boss told the Manchester Evening News.

“He’s exceptional, an incredible threat. We try to win the game.”

The Community Shield kicks off at 5pm BST at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.

Liverpool will also take on Strasbourg on Sunday in their last pre-season friendly.

Meanwhile, City’s next game after the Liverpool clash will be their Premier League opener at West Ham next Sunday.
