Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has described reported Anfield target Jude Bellingham as a “Steven Gerrard type of player”.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have been heavily linked with the England star over the past few months.

And speculation between Liverpool and Bellingham is likely to increase going into the January transfer window.

Writing in his newsletter for The Independent, journalist Miguel Delaney recently said the Reds are among the clubs pushing the most to sign the 19-year-old.

Liverpool’s Klopp could certainly do with bolstering his midfield ranks in 2023, and signing Bellingham would be a real statement of intent.

And ahead of the January transfer window, there’s a certain international tournament that could see him – and many other players – put themselves even more in the shop window.

England reached the last four of the 2018 World Cup and the final of Euro 2020, so they’ll fancy their chances at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Bellingham as a No. 8 – ‘that’s him at his best’

And Carragher, speaking to Sky Sports, reckons the Liverpool target must now play a central role in Qatar.

“He’s a different type of player,” Carragher said on a special edition of the Sky Sports England World Cup ladder.

“He takes you back to a Steven Gerrard type of player, who’s going to go forward and supplement the attack, creating chances and scoring goals.”

As far as Liverpool targets go, Bellingham is by far the most high-profile one and the one who’d arrive at Anfield to the most fanfare.

The 19-year-old, branded as an ‘amazing’ player, is arguably the best midfielder of his age in the world at the moment.

Bellingham is absolutely sensational, and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves Dortmund for a much bigger club.

Could that club be Liverpool? It’ll certainly be exciting to see what happens next year.
