Liverpool, Arsenal and West Ham set to miss out, as Leicester reportedly close in on £17m bargain - Romano
Leicester City are reportedly closing in on a move to sign RedBull Salzburg attacker Patson Daka, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. He claims that the Foxes have failed to sign Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard and pursued Daka instead. He was linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and West Ham.
Daka, 22, has cropped up on the shortlist of numerous European clubs this summer after a whirlwind season with the Austrian champions. The Zambia international scored a whopping 34 goals and created 12 more in 42 outings. Zambia Football claim West Ham, Liverpool and Arsenal want him.
Available for a bargain £17million (Express), it is easy to see why. But Romano has now claimed that the Premier League trio are to be left licking their wounds in the race for Daka. That is because Leicester have sprung into action. Failing to get Edouard, they have gone in for Daka instead.
Is Leicester the right club for Daka – with Liverpool, Arsenal and West Ham all keen?
Leicester have both Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho as options up front. Both enjoyed brilliant seasons last term and while Vardy is getting on, he is showing no signs of slowing down. So, Daka might actually be third choice by the time he gets to the King Power.
At West Ham, he would have been direct competition for Michail Antonio and with the Hammers in the Europa League, he would have got considerable game time. Liverpool and Arsenal have plenty up front. West Ham would have been his best move.
