Liverpool and Manchester City reportedly keen on player Raheem Sterling raved about this summer
Liverpool and Manchester City are two clubs reportedly keen on Leeds star Kalvin Phillips – a player Raheem Sterling raved about in the summer.
Phillips, 25, looks happy at Leeds and is contracted to the Yorkshire club until the summer of 2025. But if the club fail to progress, he might opt out.
In a very similar boat to Jack Grealish at Aston Villa, Phillips may feel that he needs to play Champions League football at some stage.
They are Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal. Back in the summer, Sterling raved about the 17-time England international.
“Rice and Phillips were class, they were animals in there and it was a great team performance,” Sterling said, after England’s win over Germany.
Sterling on Phillips: Liverpool or Manchester City for Leeds star?
Manchester City need a holding midfielder. Fernandinho almost left City in the summer, only to eventually sign a new one-year deal at The Etihad.
At Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has Fabinho at his disposal – probably the best holding midfielder in European football. Jordan Henderson, too.
On paper, Manchester City need Phillips more – but would Phillips start ahead of Rodri? Does his style suit that of Pep Guardiola?
Right now, Phillips is on the rise – as are Leeds. He should remain and then observe things next summer. As long as Leeds grow, Phillips stays.
