Report: Liverpool want to sign attacking 'revelation' this summer ahead of Chelsea
Liverpool have joined Chelsea and a cluster of other clubs in being keen on signing Arsenal striker, Eddie Nketiah, according to reports.
Nketiah is expected to leave Arsenal this summer after failing to agree to a new contract with the Gunners. A host of clubs are said to be keen on signing the Englishman, and 90Min has now claimed that both Liverpool and Chelsea have joined the race.
Interest in Nketiah from Liverpool comes as a surprise given he wasn’t even playing at all for Arsenal until recently. But a huge turnaround in form has shown everyone what Nketiah is capable of in front of goal and now there is a clamour to land the striker before he signs a new deal with Arsenal.
Martin Keown has branded Nketiah as a ‘revelation’ of late for his form. However, he was stopped easily in the recent North London Derby, a sign that there is still plenty of work for him to do on his game.
Newcastle are thought to be among the clubs keen on Nketiah as well. The Toon are expected to make signings this summer, and already landed Nketiah’s former Arsenal teammate Joe Willock last year.
TBR’s View: Liverpool Don’t Need Eddie Nketiah
This really would be one of the most surprising transfers in recent history if it came off. Nketiah has come from nowhere to show some good form lately but surely that’s not enough to convince Liverpool?
The Reds do need a new forward but they need someone ready to hit the ground running and improve the XI. On the face of it, you’d have to say Nketiah doesn’t quite live up to that billing just yet.
However, on a free, there might be a case that Nketiah can be a useful squad player. Liverpool are losing Divock Origi, so Klopp might fancy a new super-sub in his ranks.
