It’s not been the greatest of starts to life as a Tottenham player for midfielder, Yves Bissouma, who signed from Brighton in the summer.

The impressive midfielder was one of Antonio Conte’s main signings. Brought in to bolster a midfield which had, at times, looked lightweight and lacking depth, Bissouma was sought-after by many a Premier League team over the summer.

Indeed, according to The Athletic, Liverpool and Manchester United were among those teams keen on signing him.

Of course, we saw all summer how pressure built on Liverpool to sign a new midfielder before right at the end of the window they opted to make a move to bring in Arthur Melo from Juventus.

Bissouma, as we know, is struggling for minutes under Antonio Conte at Tottenham. Despite being picked out as an ‘unbelievable‘ signing by Paul Merson at the time, Bissouma has had little impact as yet. Indeed, Conte has even said the midfielder has struggled to grasp certain tactical aspects of his system, which has seen him struggle.

A return to former club Brighton tonight could give Bissouma his chance. However, Conte is steadfast in his ways, with a change in system unlikely based on previous outings.

TBR’s View: Bissouma Would Have Shone At Liverpool

Tottenham will probably end up seeing the player Brighton saw eventually but you can’t deny that Bissouma would have looked a top player under Jurgen Klopp.

And in a season where midfield has been a problem for Klopp, you do feel Bissouma would have got chances to play as well for the Reds.

However, it wasn’t to be for the player or Liverpool. For now, it’s a case of Bissouma simply having to knuckle down and get on with things. Liverpool, meanwhile, will no doubt be keeping a close eye on his situation over the year.
