‘Like a lost puppy’: Pundit says Arsenal have a player who never really knows what he’s doing

Arsenal lost in the league for the first time this season against Newcastle at the weekend, and, as you may have guessed, the knives are out at the Emirates.

Indeed, fans and pundits alike have been laying into Arsenal after their defeat at the weekend, and speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Izzy Christiansen has been discussing Kai Havertz and his recent performances.

The pundit says that Havertz is still adapting to Arsenal, but she also noted that the midfielder looked like a lost puppy even against Sheffield United last weekend, claiming that he doesn’t really know what he’s doing whenever he steps onto the pitch.

Havertz looks clueless

Christiansen spoke about Havertz and his struggles.

“If I’m brutally honest I think Arsenal have been figured out. I think they’re in a transitional period where the players they’ve brought in, Havertz, for example is still adapting to the structure of the midfield and it hasn’t worked for him yet. I imagine Arsenal fans are getting frustrated with that. If you’re going to challenge for a league title, I don’t think you can wait for someone to settle in,” Christiansen said.

“Against Sheffield United I watched Havertz like a hawk, and in that situation you have to be unselfish and you have to come to life when you get the ball, but with Havertz, he looked like a lost puppy out there. I was thinking ‘this is a game for you’. But again he didn’t really deliver against Newcastle.”

All over the place

As much as we hate to jump on this bandwagon of criticism, Christiansen is right, Havertz looks lost on the pitch at times.

We always hear about how he’s a clever player who creates space, but, in our view, he’s just always in other people’s way, and hindering the attack rather than helping it.

He’s not creative, he’s not clinical and he’s not smart, Havertz is offering nothing to this team at the moment, and we don’t know how long this can go on for before Mikel Arteta has to make a change.
