Lewis Bate joins Leeds: Billy Gilmour and Drinkwater react
Billy Gilmour and Danny Drinkwater were amongst those to reply to Lewis Bate after the midfielder took to Instagram following the announcement that he has joined Leeds United.
Bate has become the Whites’ fifth signing of the summer. As confirmed on the club’s official website, he has signed a three-year deal at Elland Road.
It looks to be a real coup for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Recent reports noted that Bate was offered fresh terms by Chelsea.
He was also being pursued by a number of Premier League rivals, including West Ham, Liverpool and Southampton.
But Leeds have now confirmed that they have won the race.
Bate is set to initially join up with Mark Jackson’s under-23s. But having left the Blues in search of first-team football, perhaps it may not be too long before he is knocking on Bielsa’s door.
Coup for Leeds as Lewis Bate joins
Obviously, it was a tough decision for Bate to leave Stamford Bridge. The 18-year-old spent 10 years with the club.
He has posted an emotional message to his now former side on Instagram. He paid tribute to the players and coaches he worked alongside during his time with Chelsea…
And amongst those to reply were Gilmour and Drinkwater. Gilmour wished him well, as did £35 million man Drinkwater.
There were also a message from former Chelsea midfielder and assistant boss Jody Morris. Morris, of course, enjoyed a short spell at Leeds during his playing days…
