Report: Orta close to beating Liverpool to signing; he's chosen to join Leeds

Leeds United are closing in on their latest signing with Goal reporting that Lewis Bate has chosen to join Marcelo Bielsa’s side ahead of several other Premier League sides.

Bate is attracting attention from a host of Premier League sides this summer. As noted by Goal, he has rejected a new contract with Chelsea.

Their report suggests that Liverpool, Southampton and West Ham all want the 18-year-old. However, they are all seemingly set for disappointment.

According to Goal, Bate has chosen to join Leeds. It is noted that he wants to secure more first-team opportunities.

So it would appear that he has received some sort of assurances from the Whites. Goal notes that he is deemed to be one of the most talented midfielders in his age group at Stamford Bridge.

Of course, the news may not come as a huge shock to Leeds supporters. As covered on TBR, Bate fuelled speculation that he may be heading to Elland Road on Instagram on Monday.

The midfielder started following the large majority of the Leeds squad on the platform, including a number of the under-23 prospects.

Bate move would be coup for Orta as report claims he’s chosen to join Leeds

Chelsea clearly wanted to keep the teenager after offering him a new deal. So it looks to be a real coup for Leeds that they look set to secure his signature.

The Whites have signed a number of outstanding prospects, particularly in the last couple of years.

And that has allowed them to put together an under-23 side that is collectively knocking on Bielsa’s door with plenty of enthusiasm.

Bate is seemingly hoping to force his way into the first-team fold quite quickly.

And with Leeds looking to strengthen their options in the middle of the park, it would appear that he will get the opportunity to prove to Bielsa that he can fill a void in the near future.
