Celtic star in 'advanced talks' with Premier League club, according to Fabrizio Romano
Leicester City are in advanced talks to sign Celtic striker, Odsonne Edouard, according to respected journalist and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
The French striker has been courted by clubs in the Premier League for some time now. The likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, and more recently, Leicester, all linked.
But it appears it is the Foxes who are close to winning the race. Edouard is said to be in advanced discussions with Brendan Rodgers’ side, per a tweet from Romano today.
Edouard has scored 40 league goals over the last two seasons. He managed 18 last term, despite the Bhoys surrendering their title to Rangers.
The 23-year-old has also rattled in the goals for the French under-21 side.
As previously reported on TBR, Edouard is expected to cost between the £15-20m mark. Leicester are also said to be close to signing Boubakar Soumare, as per Romano’s update.
Despite missing out on Champions League qualification, Leicester still enjoyed a brilliant season. They won the FA Cup thanks to a Youri Tielemens goal.
With Jamie Vardy now well into his 30s, signing Edouard is an important move for the Foxes. They’ll be hoping the Celtic man, alongside Kelechi Iheanacho, can deliver the goods.
Leicester signing Odsonne Edouard a huge coup for Rodgers
Given the amount of interest in Edouard, this is a real steal for Leicester.
He will only get better in the Premier League. Without disrespecting Celtic, the PL is a step up from the Scottish game. And playing with better players will only benefit Edouard.
He’s proven he’s a top goalscorer. His finishing is excellent and at 23, he has ample time to improve again. Further, Brendan Rodgers is also known for developing young players.
If this deal is less than £20m, then the Foxes have landed themselves a big bargain here.
