Leeds will have to pay £15m to sign ex-Arsenal star
Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Huesca star Kelechi Nwakali. The 23-year-old midfielder endured a tricky season in Spanish football last season but that has not deterred Leeds and other high-profile English clubs. Now, Leeds have learnt how much Huesca want.
Nwakali, a Nigeria Under-20 international, might be recognisable to Football Manager aficionados. The ex-Arsenal academy product was on the books with the Gunners for three years – going on numerous loans but failing to make his first-team debut. He joined Huesca in 2019.
Just five appearances came his way in his first season, and the same in the first half of 2020-21 following Huesca’s promotion to La Liga. It saw him join second-tier side Alcorcon on loan and he had more joy – scoring four goals in 18 games. However, hardly enough to really catch the eye.
How much do Leeds have to pay to get Nwakali?
But The Athletic state that Leeds have taken a look at Nwakali despite his questionable form in Spain. It is claimed, since then by the Telegraph, that Watford and Bournemouth are also keen on the midfielder. The latter report states that Leeds would have to pay Huesca £15million to get him.
A similar fee to the one that Leeds have just spent on Junior Firpo. On paper. it seems unlikely – but perhaps Victor Orta is about to pluck another diamond from the rough.
