Leeds United ace Raphinha backed to make Tite's Brazil World Cup squad

Leeds United talisman Raphinha has been backed to secure a place in Brazil’s squad for this winter’s World Cup.

After making his debut for the Selecao in October, the 25-year-old has become a mainstay in Tite’s squad and will fancy his chances of being part of the squad that travels to Qatar.

In the seven games Raphinha has played for Brazil he has three goals and two assists to his name and he is yet to taste defeat for his national side.

Brazil correspondent Joao Castello Branco spoke about Raphinha’s chances of going to the World Cup on BBCs Monday Night Club.

Branco said: “It’s only this season they [Vinicius Junior and Raphinha] started playing well.

“Raphinha only recently joined the squad, but he’s already guaranteed a place at the World Cup because he’s played so well, he impressed everyone.

“He’s played for Brazil just like he’s been playing for Leeds and he’s been a sensation.”

Competing for a spot in Tite’s squad in the wide areas – Raphinha is competing with the likes of Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Antony for the spots.

Branco believes there is as many as eight players vying for four spots and he labelled the competition “crazy”.

Gabriel Martinelli has been given an “outside chance” of making the squad and Branco also mentioned the likes of Roberto Firmino, Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus who will all be fighting for a spot.

Club form is going to have a massive say on who makes Tite’s squad and with Raphinha having nine goals and three assists from 27 games, in a struggling Leeds side, he will believe he’s done enough to grab a place on the plane.

Since arriving at Elland Road last summer from Ligue 1 side Rennes, Leeds’ number 10 is nearly averaging a direct goalscoring contribution in every other game.

He has 15 goals and 12 assists to his name for the Whites.

And with talk of a summer move to Barcelona intensifying, Raphinha will hope a potential move to the La Liga giants will only bolster his World Cup chances.
