Leeds transfer: Report claims Whites are favourites to complete signing despite Atletico Madrid interest
Leeds United may be battling Sevilla and Atletico Madrid for one of their transfer targets this summer, but it is the Whites who are the favourites to agree a deal, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Leeds look to be stepping up their transfer plans after a reserved start to the window. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Victor Orta hopes to sign a central midfielder and left-back over the coming weeks.
And perhaps, fresh reports from Spain may provide an indication of who could possibly fill that void on the left of the defence.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Marcelo Bielsa is showing strong interest in Javi Galan. But he does face competition for the Huesca star.
The report notes that both Atletico and Sevilla want Galan. The former have reportedly made an enquiry. However, Leeds look to be in pole position.
Mundo Deportivo reports that the Premier League side are favourites to sign Galan. He is also available for just £3.4 million due to a relegation release clause in his contract.
After previous reports, latest transfer links would hint Leeds may have had change of heart
However, that report also noted that Galan may not be the most likely addition Leeds make at left-back. It was claimed that they were further down the line with another, unnamed target.
So it is interesting that reports in Spain are now claiming that Leeds are favourites to land the 26-year-old.
Of course, it may simply be that the Whites are keeping their options open. It is hard to discard Galan given his release clause.
But perhaps it could be an indication that Galan may ultimately be the player Leeds intend to bring in as they look to bolster their options at left-back.
