Leeds target Kai Wagner will almost definitely be sold - journalist
Wagner was one player Leeds looked at signing during the final weeks of the summer transfer window. In fact, it was reported that talks were underway heading into the days before the deadline.
Left-back has been a problem position for Leeds for several years now. And Jesse Marsch was dealt a further blow in pre-season with Junior Firpo sidelined after the first game.
The pressure was taken off somewhat by Pascal Struijk performing well in the role. But there is no question that supporters wanted to see Victor Orta bring another option in.
Wagner is unproven in Europe. But he has really shone in MLS with Philadelphia Union. He has contributed eight assists this season. Meanwhile, the Union boast the best defensive record, with just 22 goals conceded.
Leeds let the window shut without a new signing coming in. And with that, a January move for another left-back cannot be ruled out.
Bogert has suggested that Wagner is looking set to leave. However, Leeds’ hopes of signing the 25-year-old have been dealt a blow…
Sources: Expectation is that Philadelphia Union star LB Kai Wagner will “absolutely” be sold to Europe this winter. Leeds United far from the only club interested, will be difficult for them now rather than the summer.
Wagner, 25, has 15 assists + is part of best defense in MLS.

Kai Wagner will almost definitely be sold
In hindsight, Leeds may perhaps feel that they should have signed another left-back. They did not manage to make a marquee addition up front with Wilfried Gnonto proving to be the deadline day signing.
Struijk has done well so far. And Marsch will hope to soon have Firpo back from injury.
But Wagner looks to be a class act. So if he leaves the Union in January and heads elsewhere and thrives, Leeds fans are likely to have plenty of questions concerning why the club did not bring him in in the summer.
