Leeds suffer transfer blow as £13m-rated target reportedly looks to move to Germany
Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing Maxwel Cornet but the Lyon star has other ideas. That is, according to French outlet Le10Sport, who say that the Frenchman prefers a move to Hertha Berlin. Lyon want £13million for Leeds target Cornet, and Hertha are preparing an offer close to that.
Cornet, 24, emerged as an option for Leeds before the Whites agreed a move to sign Junior Firpo from Barcelona. But given Cornet’s versatility to cover at left-back but also play as a winger, reports suggested that Cornet was still a target for Leeds. He has two years left on his deal.
Olympique de Lyonais said earlier this month that Leeds had tabled an offer worth £10million for Cornet. But the latest news from Le10Sport is that Cornet’s preference is a move to German side Hertha Berlin. Lyon want in the region of £13million for Cornet, and Hertha are ready to offer that.
Cornet would have been a bargain for Leeds at £13m, as Hertha close in
While Leeds have signed a left-back in Firpo, they do still require cover given Stuart Dallas is now playing in the middle of the park. Gjanni Alioski and Gaetano Berardi have both left. Is Leif Davis good enough to cover Firpo? The Whites require cover, and Cornet could have given that.
Not only could he have handed another option at left-back to Firpo – but he could have also proved to be worthy competition for Jack Harrison. A vast improvement on Helder Costa, Cornet would have been ideal – and cheap at £13million. A shame, for Leeds fans.
