Leeds United attacker Tyler Roberts has applauded Manchester United star Dan James on Instagram after the latter scored on his debut for Leeds’ biggest rivals during a 4-0 win over Chelsea.
James, 21, came on to the field of play at Old Trafford to make his debut for Manchester United following an £18million summer switch from Swansea City. Back in January, James came within an inch of joining Leeds.
Indeed, Leeds Live report that James had passed a medical before Swansea decided to abort a move before the January deadline struck. Now, James is a Manchester United player and he scored on his debut on Sunday.
With the score at 3-0 to United before James made his introduction, the Wales cap linked up with Paul Pogba to score a fourth. Wales teammate Roberts put Leeds and United rivalry aside to congratulate James on Instagram.
TBR’s view – Would Leeds have got promoted with James?
It was a matter of inches away from being completed. Some rumours claim James even picked a shirt number at Elland Road before the move was thrown out by Swansea. So, would Leeds have got promoted?
Marcelo Bielsa has suggested as much. Not only did Leeds need another winger, but it was his quality, speed and most importantly, killer instinct, that would have seen Leeds end their 16-year wait for Premier League football.
Instead, Leeds fans are being forced to watch James show his skills in the Premier League – for Manchester United of all teams. Roberts praising the United star – despite the Wales allegiance – is hardly going to go down well.
