Report: Leeds are now the 'most interested' when it comes to 'top class' Golden Boot winner
Leeds United are now the most interested club when it comes to MLS sensation, Valentin Castellanos, who is expected to move on this summer.
Castellanos has been in fine form over in America and won the Golden Boot after scoring 19 in 32 for New York City.
However, as reported on TBR previously, parent club Manchester City don’t want to sign him and that has opened the door for Leeds, Newcastle, and West Ham all to take a look.
And according to 90Min, it is indeed Leeds United who hold the strongest interest in Castellanos as things stand. 90Min reports how the Whites are keen on signing the striker, but as yet, New York are yet to receive a bid they deem acceptable for their star man.
It’s claimed further that New York will not be taken for a ride when it comes to the fee they accept. 90Min suggests that the MLS side know Castellanos’ importance to the cause and want the going rate for their man.
It seems, then, that Leeds will simply have to stump up the cash here to sign Castellanos. That, of course, shouldn’t be too much of a problem given they secured another Premier League season on the final day.
TBR’s View: Leeds Should Pay What It Takes To Sign Castellanos
We saw last year how Leeds struggled without key attackers available, namely Patrick Bamford. When Bamford was out – which was for a big periods – the goals dried up for the Whites.
In Castellanos, they’d be getting a player who has already shown he can hit the back of the net in the MLS and certainly looks like having the potential to succeed in England.
Leeds are backing Jesse Marsch this summer and signing Castellanos should be something they push through for their enigmatic manager.
