Leeds may have replicated 2020 masterstrokes as signing is made; fans should be buzzing - TBR View
Leeds United have announced their fourth signing of the summer on Thursday, with Sean McGurk penning a three-year deal at Elland Road following his switch from Wigan Athletic.
McGurk looks set to initially link up with Mark Jackson’s under-23s. But he will have his sights set on eventually forcing his way into the first-team fold.
Of course, the deal to bring Junior Firpo to Leeds looks their most significant so far. Meanwhile, keeping Jack Harrison was a no-brainer after his latest loan spell.
And Amari Miller looks to have an incredibly bright future ahead after making his Championship debut before his switch from Birmingham.
But based on previous reports, perhaps there is a chance that the deal for McGurk could be looked back upon as a masterstroke in the years to come.
McGurk has not yet made his senior debut. But he has already been linked with a host of top clubs in his career.
It is not clear whether any side looked to sign him before his Leeds switch. But given the clubs he was linked with, it is hard to imagine the Whites not facing competition in this window.
The reaction of the Wigan fans to the news also hints that it is unlikely that Leeds had a clear run to his signature
Leeds have replicated inspired 2020 deals with McGurk signing
Obviously, Leeds have produced some coups in the market with the young players they have signed in recent years.
Landing players such as Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood and McGurk’s former teammate Joe Gelhardt have proved inspired pieces of business.
They look to have replicated those deals by landing the 18-year-old. And it should come as no surprise if McGurk quickly excites the supporters in the same way this coming season.
