Leeds fans react as Marcelo Bielsa has criticism for new signing Junior Firpo
Marcelo Bielsa had criticism for Junior Firpo in his latest press conference as Leeds prepare to face Watford – and Whites fans are in agreement.
Firpo, 25, clocked up his seventh appearance for Leeds last time out since his move from Barcelona. He was unlucky to score an own goal.
West Ham eventually went on to win 2-1 at Elland Road – despite Raphinha giving Leeds the lead with a gorgeous first-time finish in the first 45.
The left-back is still early on in his Leeds career, but now in October, fans had hoped for more from the ex-Real Betis star – given he came from Barca.
Speaking on Thursday afternoon, Bielsa had criticism of new signing Firpo – saying he had not yet produced a 7/10 display. But backed him to get there.
“With regards to his evolution in the team, he hasn’t produced a 7/10 performance, but also, he hasn’t played below 6/10,” Bielsa said.
What are Leeds fans saying as Bielsa delivers Firpo criticism?
It is not just Firpo that Bielsa has been criticial of in recent weeks – as Leeds remain without a Premier League win in their last six games.
Stuart Dallas has been told he is not performing to the level he was producing last season. Both Firpo and Dallas are likely to start on Saturday.
Is Firpo capable of better? Certainly. At Barcelona and Betis, he was consistently producing better performances than just 6 or 7’s out of 10.
Firpo needs time and Bielsa goes on to say that he expects Firpo will eventually come good at Leeds – when he finally settles into the side.
But Leeds fans are in agreement with their gaffer over Firpo and his current form – with one fan lambasting his positioning against West Ham.
