Leeds fans react as Chelsea reportedly open to Elland Road loan for 20-year-old
A report from the Daily Record has claimed that Leeds United could be an option for Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour this summer. It is claimed that Chelsea would rather Gilmour joins Leeds, Norwich or Wolves over Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Leeds fans want Gilmour, amid the reports.
Gilmour, 20, has been excellent for Chelsea. Joining the club from Rangers in 2017, the Scotland international has broken into Chelsea’s senior side. He has since clocked up 25 appearances for the Blues, and was man of the match as Scotland drew with England at Euro 2020.
With Scotland now out of Euro 2020 after losing to Croatia – in which Gilmour missed due to a positive test – his future is up for debate. He might need a loan in order to get game time. The Record claim Gerrard has asked, but a source says Chelsea prefer him to join Leeds, Wolves or Norwich.
“But there is no doubt how highly Chelsea rate Billy. If they do agree to loan him out for experience they might prefer him to be playing in the Premier League with the likes of Norwich, Wolves or Leeds,” the source told the Record. “They also know Steven Gerrard is a big admirer.”
What are Leeds fans saying about Gilmour?
Leeds do need a midfielder this summer. They are being strongly linked with Uruguay and Cagliari star Nahitan Nandez – who can play as a holding midfielder or as a six. Similar to £43k-a-week (Spotrac) Gilmour. However, would Leeds take Gilmour on loan, without signing him permanently?
They learned their lesson with Ben White. Failing to get the Arsenal-bound defender permanently was a blow. However, Leeds fans believe Gilmour would be a brilliant signing – even on loan. He might not get the game time he’d get at Norwich. But Leeds fans think Gilmour would be a good signing.
