Report: Chelsea would prefer if their player joined PL trio this summer on loan, including Wolves and Leeds

A source has told the Daily Record that Chelsea would prefer if Billy Gilmour joined one of three Premier League clubs this summer. Rangers want to take him back to Ibrox this summer on loan. But the Record source claims Chelsea would rather he would join Leeds, Wolves or Norwich.

Gilmour, 20, was the centre of attention last week as the Chelsea ace produced a sparkling performance for Scotland against England. With Steve Clarke’s men set for a must-win match against Croatia, he returned a positive test. It saw him ruled out, and Scotland crashed out 3-1.

His performance for Scotland has not been forgotten, though. His stock is very high, and Steven Gerrard expressed his interest in bringing him back to Rangers. The Record say Rangers want him, but also quote a source suggesting Chelsea would rather he joins Leeds, Wolves or Norwich.

“But there is no doubt how highly Chelsea rate Billy. If they do agree to loan him out for experience they might prefer him to be playing in the Premier League with the likes of Norwich, Wolves or Leeds,” the source told the Record. “They also know Steven Gerrard is a big admirer.”

Leeds or Wolves – which would need Chelsea ace Gilmour more?

Well, Leeds do need a midfielder. They need a player that can cover Kalvin Phillips, which Gilmour is capable of doing. They could also do with another body in the six role, which Gilmour can do. But would he start for Leeds? Probably not. Wolves might be a better move for Gilmour.

That is because Ruben Neves is keen on leaving the club, while Joao Moutinho is not getting any younger. Leander Dendoncker is preferred at centre-back sometimes. Adding Gilmour into the mix at Wolves would be ideal for the Midlands club.
