Leeds fans have praise for one of their players, despite big Manchester City loss

Leeds United were hammered 7-0 by Premier League champions Manchester City on Tuesday night despite the best efforts of Illan Meslier. Indeed, Leeds fans have praised their goalkeeper, despite conceding seven times.

Jack Grealish, Nathan Ake, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, John Stones and a brace from Kevin De Bruyne saw City ease to a 7-0 win. They took advantage of a Leeds side that are suffering with an extensive injury list.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were taken apart by Pep Guardiola’s outfit, losing 3-0 at half-time. De Bruyne looked back to his best, while Grealish produced one of his better performances in a Manchester City shirt – delighting City fans.

While Meslier gave the ball away in terms of possession on numerous occasions, the Frenchman made a number of superb saves throughout the 90 minutes. Without Meslier, it could have been double digits.

Stones scored after Meslier made a superb double save from the England defender, while Meslier also tipped a Mahrez free-kick over the bar. Some stunning saves, but still conceding seven times at The Etihad.

Meslier was easily his side’s best player. The midfield was nowhere to be seen when coming up against the likes of Fernandinho and Kevin De Bruyne. The attackers tore the makeshift Leeds defence to shreds.

Grealish embarrassed Jamie Shackleton, while it was more proof that Luke Ayling is much better on the right. Meslier was his side’s best and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter.
