Report: Super-agent wants to swap 6-goal ace for Serie A attacker; player 'likes Everton a lot'
Jorge Mendes ‘holds’ the idea of a swap deal between Everton ace James Rodriguez and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.
According to Calciomercato, the profile of the former Real Madrid man is perfect for the Serie A outf, who are looking for a replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu. The Colombian’s contract expires next summer.
Meanwhile, the young Portuguese attacker is said to ‘like Everton a lot’ with there being contact in recent months.
There has been speculation over Rodriguez’s future at Goodison Park since Carlo Ancelotti left the club for Real Madrid. However, he seemingly shoot down talks of an exit by claiming he was ‘fine’ at Everton.
TBR View: Rodriguez/Leao swap deal would suit Everton massively.
A swap deal between Rodriguez and Leao would suit Everton massively after the 29-year-old’s underwhelming debut season.
There was a sense the South American didn’t want to be on Merseyside following his show of attitude.
Prior to the end of the season, the attacker was already on a flight back to his homeland. There was claims the player felt ‘fatigued‘ following the game against Sheffield United.
And given the Colombia international played just 26 times across all competitions before then, that excuse seems suspect.
Swapping out the player for a young attacker in Leao would be an ideal scenario for Everton.
The Portugal international was in great form for the Serie A outfit as they qualified for the Champions League.
He scored six goals and registered six assists in 30 appearances in the Italian top-flight.
Whatever the reasoning for James Rodriguez’s attitude last season, it seems like the ace doesn’t want to be at the club.
Everton have been handed the perfect situation to getting him out of the club.
