Arsenal have been patient in the summer transfer window with the emphasis evidently on quality over quantity.

Riccardo Calafiori joined Arsenal from Bologna earlier in the window after an impressive Euro 2024 campaign with Italy.

The Gunners have been in talks to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, though, that deal seems to have gone quiet in recent days.

Now, it has just emerged, that one of their rumoured wing-back targets looks set to remain at his current club.

Bayer Leverkusen confident of keeping Jeremie Frimpong

Arsenal have been linked with Jeremie Frimpong this summer with Mikel Arteta evidently eager to sign a more attacking right back.

Though, despite Frimpong’s desire to move to the Premier League, Bayer Leverkusen are growing increasingly confident that he’ll stay.

The Netherlands international is considered a vital player by manager Xavi Alonso, although, Plettenberg stressed that interest remains and it could be a transfer to watch on deadline day.

So, perhaps Arsenal aren’t completely out of the race just yet.

Arsenal should consider specialist winger instead

Instead of Frimpong, Arsenal should look to sign a specialist winger instead as Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both adept right-backs.

So, Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane should certainly be on their radar as should Baris Alper Yilmaz, who would provide depth in a number of areas.

Yilmaz is of interest to Arsenal but they’re yet to make a formal approach for the Galatasaray wide player, who can operate at full-back.

The Turkey international is expected to cost suitors around £25m, though, that price tag could be negotiated down.
