Arsenal have been patient in the summer transfer window with Riccardo Calafiori the only addition so far.

Sporting Director Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta have been working closely on identifying the right targets for Arsenal and clearly, they’ve been eager to add quality rather than quantity.

They feel they’ve got that in Calafiori who starred at Euro 2024 with Italy and there are reports suggesting Mikel Merino is about to join Arsenal.

That said, it appears they could miss out on a rumoured target as Brighton are now set to steal a march on his signature.

Brighton submit bid for Ferdi Kadioglu

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Fenerbahce defender Ferdi Kadioglu for much of the summer.

In fact, TBR reported in June that they had a £17m bid rejected for Kadioglu, so clearly he’s a player Arteta really likes.

The 24-year-old shone at Euro 2024 with Turkey and has put a number of clubs across the continent on red alert.

Brighton are one of those sides and have just lodged a £30.1m offer which Fenerbahce are considering, according to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

The journalist also posted on his X account that two unnamed Premier League clubs have made an offer to Kadioglu, so it may well be Arsenal.

Ferdi Kadioglu profile

Kadioglu is considered a ‘rising star’ in Turkey, per One Football, and his Euro 2024 campaign only amplified that notion.

The versatile defender was a constant driving force from wing-back and evinced his terrific engine throughout the tournament.

The 20-cap international can operate as a right-back, left-back, off both wing flanks and even as a central midfielder.

Kadioglu’s also plied his trade as a second striker before, so it’s clear he’s a really intelligent player, capable of adapting to new roles.
