Jurgen Klopp has told Wednesday’s press conference – as per Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie – that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are already showing traits of his old Bournemouth side. Newcastle face Liverpool on Thursday.
Newcastle have taken five points from a possible 15 under Howe. The ex-Bournemouth gaffer watched his side completely taken apart by a Leicester City side on Sunday, losing 4-0 – even without Jamie Vardy.
Now, the Toon come into a match with the odds stacked against them. Klopp has even reported a double injury boost, confirming that Roberto Firmino and Curtis Jones are back in training at Melwood.
While Newcastle are still struggling to pick up points, they have changed their style under Howe. Newcastle fans had been crying out for a more attacking approach, and that is what Howe has given them.

Many are now, perhaps, beginning to understand why they were so defensive initially – a lack of quality at the back. But Klopp was full of praise for Howe, and his start to life as Newcastle manager.
“More shots, more shots on target, more possession, more offensive things. I’ve known Eddie as a colleague a long time now and you can see glimpses of the Bournemouth style. A few weeks there & you can see his influence.”
Klopp on Howe: Newcastle boss needs time, but he has none
As we approach the halfway stage of the Premier League season, Newcastle remain in 19th place. They have won just one of their 16 games. Their next three games see them face Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Yes, Howe needs time and patience – as every manager does. But even at this early stage, every match matters for Howe and Newcastle. There is no time for patience now on Tyneside.
January could re-install some enthusiasm – the novelty of a new manager seems to have worn off already. They need some new signings, improvements in defence and in midfield.
