Kieran Tierney lauded after Scotland win; rated 8/10
Arsenal star Kieran Tierney was one of the players who stole the show as Scotland picked up a huge win in Austria on Tuesday.
Steve Clarke’s men are now sat second in their World Cup qualifying group. They sit one point clear of Israel after winning three of their last four.
Lyndon Dykes scored the only goal from the penalty spot in Vienna. It came after the referee decided at the pitchside monitor that Che Adams had been fouled in the box.
But it was the defensive display that really left many hugely impressed.
Tierney was lauded by a number of fans on social media, with plenty suggesting that he was the best player on the pitch.
And it appears that much of the Scottish media may agree. The Scottish Sun handed the Arsenal man an 8/10 rating.
Meanwhile, The Herald gave the 24-year-old the same score. And they suggested that having Tierney in the ranks made a big difference.
“Another one who impressed greatly at the back,” The Herald suggested. “Got forward well too when Scotland were in possession and looked to counter. A key addition to the Scotland defence.”
Tierney will hope Scotland display in Austria will spark season into life
It has been a tough start to the campaign for Tierney. Arsenal have obviously struggled in the Premier League.
He is one of the talismanic figures in Mikel Arteta’s side. Whenever he plays, it is not too difficult to find some Arsenal fans suggesting that he is a future captain.
Like several others, he stepped up massively in Austria.
And Arsenal fans will be hoping that he is one of the players to inspire a turnaround upon his return to the Emirates.
