Fans react to Kieran Tierney display in Scotland win in Austria

A number of fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Kieran Tierney after the Arsenal star helped Scotland to a huge win in their World Cup qualifier with Austria on Tuesday.

Steve Clarke’s men have put themselves in a strong position in their group after an impressive performance in Vienna.

Lyndon Dykes scored the only goal after the visitors were awarded a first-half penalty following a foul on Southampton striker Che Adams. And they had subsequent chances to kill the game off.

But they also needed to produce a strong defensive performance against Austria. And that was where Tierney really shone.

The Gunners man started on the left of the back three, inside Andy Robertson. And it seems that many felt that he was the best player on the pitch.

He was back to his energetic best, flying up and down all evening for Clarke’s men.

And he produced some moments of real quality, including one cross from an incredibly tight position that his teammates seemingly did not expect Tierney to pull out of the bag.

As shown by Whoscored, Robertson was the only Scotland player to make more tackles than Tierney. Meanwhile, he made a raft of clearances.

It has not been the easiest start to the season for Tierney. He has arguably been not at his best in the opening weeks of the campaign with Arsenal.

But he looked much more like his old self against Austria. Gunners fans will be hoping that his display sparks his season into life.
