Arsenal rocked as first-teamer stretchered off during World Cup break

Arsenal are facing up to a potential injury blow as young forward Khayon Edwards was stretchered off playing for the under-21s today.

The Gunners young guns were in action against Stoke City and ended up drawing 1-1, with Edwards getting on the scoresheet.

However, the result was immaterial in the end as young Edwards went down under a challenge in the final few minutes and failed to get to his feet. Edwards was then stretchered off, in what appears to be a serious blow for both the player and Arsenal.

Reported on Twitter by Arsenal youth expert Jeorge Bird, Edwards’ injury put a real dampener on proceedings. The youngster has only just returned from another injury and is set to be a big part of Arsenal’s future.

Indeed, he has already featured in the first-team this season. He was called up to the squads to face both Bodo Glimt and PSV in the Europa League, while there was talk of him being in Arteta’s eye line before the game with Leeds.

Despite being yet to actually feature under Mikel Arteta, Edwards is seen as one for the future. Like so many at London Colney, the 19-year-old is highly-rated.

TBR’s View: Injury a devastating blow to Khayon Edwards

This is a nightmare scenario for any young player. Being stretchered off is not what you need when you’re trying to push for the first-team and Edwards will be gutted.

There is no news yet on what the injury is. But the stretcher was out and that’s not normally a good sign for any player.

For Edwards and Arsenal, there’ll now be an anxious wait. If the injury is serious, then the youngster will be absolutely gutted. He was just getting himself involved and after scoring today, must have felt good.

Hopefully, the stretcher was more of a precaution than a necessity.
