‘Keep an eye on that one’… Journalist suggests £34m midfielder could join Newcastle in January

Newcastle will be able to bring in players from Saudi Arabia in January after the Premier League’s vote this week.

The Magpies have been strongly linked with a move for Ruben Neves as of late, but, by the sounds of it, that one isn’t going to happen now.

However, there is another midfielder in the middle-east who could soon be on their way to St James’ Park.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Alex Crook has been discussing some potential arrivals at Newcastle in January, and he says that Gabri Veiga is one to watch on that front, claiming that he’s a player Newcastle really admire and wanted in the summer.

Veiga one to watch

Crook spoke about the £34m midfielder and Newcastle’s plans.

“I think they’re still worried with how they’re perceived, but it would be a surprise for me if they didn’t take at least one player from Saudi in January. It might not be Ruben Neves, Al-Hilal are keen to keep him. But Gabri Veiga was a player who was very much in their sights this summer and it was a bit of a surprise at such a young age that he went to Saudi, so I’d keep an eye on that one,” Crook said.

Would make sense

It has to be said that this one would make the world of sense.

Let’s be real, Gabri Veiga shouldn’t be in Saudi Arabia anyway.

The Saudi League is getting better, but, for the most part, it’s a retirement home for fading top stars.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante have all had their days in the sun, but Veiga, at the age of just 21, should have his whole career ahead of him, and he’s best-served playing in Europe.

The young Spaniard is certainly a player to keep an eye on in January.
