Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus put on notice as ‘prolific’ Arsenal youngster sends early season message v Manchester United

The conversation around Arsenal and a new striker has continued on now for a number of transfer windows.

The Gunners have been looking for a new number nine – if you believe what you read anyway – for a number of seasons now.

Last season, Mikel Arteta went with Kai Havertz as the main man, while Leandro Trossard also helped out with Gabriel Jesus struggling for form and fitness.

Of course, this summer has seen Arsenal once again fail to bring in that main striker. Further, they’ve also lost one of their most promising young strikers, Chido Obi-Martin, to Manchester United.

Still, though, the Gunners have a wealth of talent emerging and one of those young talents, Khayon Edwards, has already put the Arsenal strike-force on notice.

Khayon Edwards hits double to send message to Arsenal strikers

Of course, we all know that the step up from the under-21s to first-team is massive and that many a player fail to make that jump.

However, in last night’s opener for the young Gunners v Manchester United, 20-year-old forward Khayon Edwards showed his pedigree by netting twice in a 4-2 win.

Edwards has been on the books and sniffing around the first-team for some time now at Arsenal.

But now out of his teens, it feels like it could be a massive year for the youngster.

Edwards’ double v United helped Arsenal to a comfortable win in the end and it should not be overlooked the role the academy players can play this season.

Naturally, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus will fancy themselves as the main men up top.

However, pressure from the youth ranks doesn’t hurt and this is the ideal start for Edwards.

If he can maintain this form, keep firing in the goals, and showing improvements, then the ‘prolific‘ Arsenal youngster can make an impression.

There has been talk of a loan move for Edwards. But if he’s scoring regularly for the 21s, then Arsenal and Mikel Arteta might just keep him around.

Jesus and Havertz, then, must very much take note of Edwards.
